How well would your changed Ganon translations lip sync, though? (I'm not trying to badmouth your translations or anything, I swear! My thoughts just can't drop the dubbing logistics.)
That is exactly the problem of voiced script translations in general!
It’s pretty much impossible to make an [English] translation that accurately tries to carry over the nuance, tonality and word choice of the Japanese original *and* sounds impressive and well paced when spoken.
So for a voice-acted script, the latter will naturally always have the highest priority when translating. But even then, I believe it should always be the translator’s goal to actively try and find a reasonable compromise between the two.
My big criticism of the official English translation is that it seems they did not in fact *try*. They completely skipped over parts that have extreme importance for the characterization of [Ganondorf in this case]. Like how in Japanese he says he will rule over *everything in existence* and that he ought to be the *supreme ruler*. How could that ever turn into “I will rule this land” and just that?
Needed to get this out of my system. Take it with a grain of salt, but I don’t like how the official translation failed to convey the scope of Ganon’s ambitions. 🤧
It was very wishy-washy through and through, but this is focused on Ganon.
(PS: I know there is a typo in the jpn script, don’t hit me, I’m very typo-prone)
